If people could recoup the hour they lose when the clocks go forward on 26 March, they would spend it ‘playing with the kids’ or ‘going for a walk’, says employee benefits firm Lemonade Reward.
In a recent online poll, Lemonade Reward asked ‘what would you most like to do if you had an extra hour in the day’? The shared top answers were closely followed by ‘making a cup of tea’ and ‘reading a book’ – confirming the popularity of traditional pastimes.
There is however, pressure to connect online; the third most popular response was ‘having a social media fix’ and fourth,’ going to the gym’. Joint fifth was ‘catching up on emails’ and ‘giving the house a clean’ and sixth, ‘getting my financial future sorted’. ‘Washing the car’ ranked seventh.
Lemonade Reward managing partner, David Pugh, comments: “People are clearly feeling pressured when it comes to time management and it’s no surprise to find financial planning low down their priorities. Yet it is something that once sorted, could reduce the amount of time spent working in the future, freeing up those hours to spend with families or on themselves.”
The firm is calling upon employers to provide workers with financial planning support. Lemonade Reward’s financial education programme tailors content and delivery for differing life stages, offers employees free financial health checks and signposts to solutions to achieve their goals and support from a Lemonade Hero – a financial fitness mentor whose sole purpose is to help get the finances on track.
