RMS Recruitment is working with a prestigious client in Rotherham to recruit for an exciting opportunity as a Mechanical Technician. Our client is part of a global integrated steel business with a focus on sustainability and innovation.   • Working Hours: 8am-4pm (including weekends)
  • Salary: £40,045.39 per annum (including shift allowance)

About the Role:

As a Mechanical Technician, you will report to the Team Leader or Shift Engineer, you will work within a collaborative team environment while maintaining high health and safety standards. Your primary responsibilities will include executing routine planned maintenance schedules, accurately reporting duties, and responding promptly to breakdowns. You will be a key member of a multi-disciplined engineering team, fully engaging in activities aimed at achieving plant operational targets, ensuring product quality, and delivering excellent customer service. Additionally, you will ensure that all tasks align with health and safety regulations, as well as the maintenance execution and development objectives of the site.

  • Undertake the manufacturing process within the team area of responsibility to ensure that departmental objectives and targets are achieved.
  •  Ensure high standards of health & safety, act within the team to continuously improve safety standards and practice and will identify and develop safety Initiatives within the team.
  • Undertake designated responsibilities under statutory regulations.
  • Develop and initiate process improvements within the team.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Ensure the team resources are effectively deployed, work carried out efficiently, to set safety standards and reported back effectively on the INFOR system.
  • Assess self-performance and develop, implement and review appropriate training plans to ensure individual optimum performance.
  • Ensure effective communications within the team and between other teams.
  • Ensure that the team leader is the first point of contact for individual team member’s problems and queries and will ensure that appropriate issues are resolved to ensure the smooth operation of the team with minimum disruption.

About You:

  • The role requires a candidate to be fully conversant with mechanical aspects of a rolling mill and associated plant and equipment.
  • Recognised Mechanical apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent) 
  • Mechanical experience of heavy manufacturing industry and use of mechanical equipment, specialist tools, lifting equipment for example.
  • Basic hydraulic, welding and pipefitting.
  • Previous experience Mechanical maintenance of handling equipment, pumps and pipework systems.
  • Previous experience of PPM and reporting of PPM activities and breakdowns.
  • Previous experience of maintenance of Gearbox’s and coupling systems.
  • Experience of working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • A good understanding and knowledge of Health Safety Legislation with experience of adhering to SWP’s, risk assessments, procedures and permit systems.
  • Good level of problem-solving awareness with an ability to fault find of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience of crane maintenance.
